Assembly Time: Optimus Robot and Base is about 2 hours To assemble truck you must completely disassemble Optimus and the base and reassemble the truck (probably a 2+ hour job) Pros: Lots of pieces, neat finished model Neat mini figures Cons: Pieces are not Lego and compatibility is marginal (read more below) Stickers go in different spots between truck and robot Optimus. Design of robot could be slightly better Ankle joints are stiff enough to support robot Optimus if they are bent at all Optimus blue is darker than I would expect, it is navy blue that is almost black. This is a great toy, well made and it allows children to use their imagination and construct it in a number of different ways. The one drawback is the number of pieces, 542! The product is recommended for children ages 8-14, I would definitely not purchase this for an 8 year old. My almost 10 year old was very frustrated and my 13 year old and I had to end up constructing the model. Definitely for older children. I planned on handing this over to a 12 year old and watching him assemble it, so I first opened the box to check it out. There were several plastic bags containing parts (these took up about 60% of the box,) some instructions, and a small sheet of decals. The decals were not in any protective bag - so about half of them were stuck to the other parts bags or folded over and stuck together - pretty annoying. A small bag and piece or cardboard would have solved that. The instructions were pretty crumpled up from rattling around in the way-too-large box. That said, the rest of the parts were fine. The 12 year old expected the thing to actually be able to transform - not to have to rebuild it. You can build a truck or a bot - not both at the same time. To be fair, the product is pretty clear on that, but it's not what a 12 year old wants to hear.
